Emerging Markets Outlook and Strategy for 2010

Emerging Markets passed a major stress test in 2009 and
have moved to center stage in the global economy. The
year 2009 will be remembered as the year that EM carried
the global economy, with EM consumption well surpassing
that of the US as a share of total global consumption.
Indeed, over the past four years, EM contributed more to
global GDP growth than all of the developed markets. Next
year, EM countries will stage a powerful recovery, and we
forecast 5.8% growth, slightly above estimated 5.7%
average potential growth. EM Asia will lead with 7.3%
growth, but Latin America will benefit from Brazil’s 5%
outperformance and also grow above potential.
