www.tajikistannews.net reported that $BP was asked to deposit 34 Billion

BP could be facing a bill of $34 billion from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill disaster. The sum is much higher than the previous estimates of analysts, who have said they now believe the company will have to deposit billions of dollars into an account which will be used to meet escalating compensation costs. BP already faces up to $14 billion in civil penalties, payable under punitive damages laws in the US. The oil spill has been estimated at eight times worse than the Exxon Valdez disaster in 1989, with BP liable for up to $4,300 for each barrel of oil spilt into the water and beaches of America’s south-west.
